Seiko Prospex Expands Black Series With Four New Limited Editions

Seiko Prospex has added four new limited edition pieces to its Black Series of night-diving watches. The timepieces are inspired by Seiko dive watches from 1965, 1968, and 1970 and come within Seiko's preferred "contemporary reimagining" approach to reissues from its back catalogue.

The first three watches have a common black and orange color scheme, employ Seiko's 6R35 Automatic movement, and are limited to 5,500 pieces each. Each watch is held together by a braided fabric band and comes with an extra silicone strap.

The fourth piece, based on the asymmetrical 1970 case form, has a textured dial (sand on the sea bottom), a full orange seconds hand, a matching black coated steel band, and is limited to 1,000 pieces. The piece also receives a movement improvement in the shape of Seiko's 8L35, which is essentially an undecorated, unadjusted version of Grand Seiko's 9S55 with enhanced -10/+15 seconds per day accuracy.

The four watches will be available from Seiko in March, with prices ranging from £1,080 GBP to £2,850 GBP (roughly $1,460 USD to $3,860 USD).

In other news, Spinnaker's entry-level diver has a severe specification.
