Prince Harry & Meghan Markle To Receive Presidents Award At NAACP Image Awards

The NAACP and BET announced today that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be the recipients of the NAACP President's Award in 2022.

The Archewell Foundation, which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex co-founded, will be honored at the 53rd annual NAACP Image Awards on Saturday. BET will broadcast the ceremony live in the East at 8 p.m. and delayed in the West at 8 p.m.

"It is an honor to be recognized by President Derrick Johnson and the NAACP, whose efforts to advance racial fairness and civil rights are as important now as they were nearly 115 years ago," the pair said in a statement. "We are honored to support the NAACP's efforts."

"We're happy to present this honor to Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have heeded the call to social justice and have joined the struggle for equity both in the United States and around the world," Johnson added. Not only are the Duke and Duchess continuing to set an example, but they have also decided to inspire the next generation of activists through the NAACP-Archewell Digital Civil Rights Award, ensuring the support and recognition of future generations of civil rights leaders."

The NAACP-Archewell Digital Civil Rights Honor is a new yearly award that honours leaders who are bringing about revolutionary change at the nexus of social justice and technology in order to advance civil and human rights.
