Date of lockdown announcement 'confirmed' as new rules to come into place after Christmas

As a nation waits for further news about impending restrictions set to be imposed in light of the Omicron variant wave, there have been reports that a date has already been pencilled in for an announcement.

Boris Johnson is reportedly considering introducing tougher restrictions prior to Christmas Day after an urgent warning by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE).

However, The Sunday Times has reported that Boxing Day has been pencilled in for an announcement.

Following that, new measures could potentially be brought into place from the following day - December 27.

The newspaper reports that one of the options being considered is a two-week circuit breaker lockdown.
