Will Smith will embark on a new National Geographic adventure

Pole to Pole, a series starring and executive produced by the actor and producer, 

will premiere on Disney+ as part of the Nat Geo hub. The show will follow Smith and his film crew on a 26,000-mile journey from the South Pole to the North Pole, visiting all of Earth's biomes and stopping at towns along the way, as the title suggests. The project will be shot over the course of more than 100 days, but no start date or premiere date has been set.

Pole to Pole was one of several series orders revealed by Nat Geo on Monday at the Television Critics Association. Projects created by James are among them.

In a statement, National Geographic Content president Courteney Monroe stated, "Our aim is to tell daring, best-in-class stories that stimulate curiosity and motivate people to explore and care about our globe." With wildly entertaining National Geographic documentary series, feature documentary films, epic natural history, and fact-based scripted drama, we are bringing awe and wonder to the lives of global Disney+ subscribers with premium, creatively ambitious shows from the very best storytellers in the world.

The multi-season series, dubbed "the most ambitious and complete portrayal of life on Earth ever attempted," will document life in all its forms on all seven continents and five oceans.

Jon Favreau, producer Mike Gunton, and the BBC Studios Natural History Unit collaborated on Lion. The series is currently under production, will spend four years following a single pride of lions, an unusual amount of time for a natural history documentary.

James Cameron, Oxford Scientific Films, and SeaLight Pictures present Secrets of the Elephants and Secrets of the Octopus. The Secrets of... will be continued in both series. The Secrets of the Whales film launched the Earth Day franchise last year. Both shows are executive produced by Cameron and Maria Wilhelm. Lucinda Axelsson of Oxford Scientific Films has an Elephants EP, while Colette Beaudry and Adam Geiger of SeaLight Pictures have Octopus EPs.

Sentient is a documentary about the various levels of sentience found in all forms of life, from plants to primates. Mark Linfield and Vanessa Berlowitz of Wildstar Films, together with Aronofsky and Handel, exec produce for Protozoa Pictures, Hannah Gibson is the star of the show will follow a single pride of lions for four years, a record for a natural history series.

The Epic Adventures of Bertie Gregory, following the 27-year-old filmmaker to locations around the world in search of animals surviving under harsh conditions. It’s set to premiere later this year. Wildstar Films produces; Vanessa Berlowitz, Anwar Mamon and James Brickell are the EPs.
