The stories I hear from other women scare me': Rihanna reveals her pregnancy was unplanned

In an interview with the publication, Rihanna detailed how she's 'scared' hearing stories from other women who have struggled with postpartum depression and she's 'frightened' of feeling 'out of control emotionally' when she gives birth to her first child.

Discussing the start of her pregnancy journey, Rihanna said: 'I wouldn't say planning. But certainly not planning against it. I don't know when I ovulate or any of that type of s**t. We just had fun.

And then it was just there on the test. I didn't waste any time. I called him inside and showed him. Then I was in the doctor's office the next morning and our journey began.'

Asked about her biggest fear when she gives birth, the hitmaker said: 'Postpartum depression. Will I feel out of control emotionally? Those are the stories I hear from other women that scare me.'

Proudly putting her bare bump on display, Rihanna also posed in a chic red cropped jacket and a matching skirt from Rick Owens, before stunning in a Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture By Glenn Martens dress

Discussing her plans for the day she gives birth, Rihanna admitted Covid restrictions may hinder plans to have all her friends and family present, but joked she may just 'hire a party bus' to park outside.

Despite these concerns, Rihanna added that she is determined to carry on managing her billion-dollar empire while raising her first child, saying: 'Balance is one of my biggest challenges and always has been. And now there's another human being coming into play, it changes what that means again.

'Still, I have businesses that aren't going to run themselves. My mom handled the three of us with not even close to the amount of resources that I have, so I can absolutely do it. What it looks like? I'm not sure.'

Rihanna also defended her redefining of pregnancy fashion and embracing her changing body, having been proudly showcasing her bump in an array of scantily-clad looks.

'I'm hoping that we were able to redefine what's considered ''decent'' for pregnant women. My body is doing incredible things right now, and I'm not going to be ashamed of that,' she said.

This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?

'When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, There's no way I'm going to go shopping in no maternity aisle. I'm sorry—it's too much fun to get dressed up. I'm not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing.'

While Rihanna and A$AP Rocky began dating in 2020, the pair had been friends since 2013, and the star confessed it took her a long time to see him in a romantic light.

She said: 'People don't get out of the friend zone very easily with me and I certainly took a while to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me, because we also know how much trouble we can land each other in.

On starting her motherhood journey, she continued: 'They're going to teach me more than I could ever teach them. And I want them to go for it. I want to see who they are in the world, who they become. Because I'm just here to keep them on the rails—a passenger as much as the driver.'

The star also hinted that she's looking at her much-anticipated next album 'totally differently,' and it's been 'fun' to 'take the pressure off' from how she'd planned her next project.

Since Rihanna shared the cover shoot on Instagram, it has amassed more than two million likes and sparked a 191% increase in fashion demand for 'lace bodysuits’, according to LoveTheSales.com.

It comes after Rihanna exposed her belly in a pastel pink bralette and matching low-slung jeans while making her way into popular Hollywood restaurant Nice Guy.

The singer added to her look with a pink faux-fur stole, while a tan coloured bomber jacket and stiletto heels rounded things.

Rihanna started dating A$AP Rocky in 2020, though they had been linked back as far back as 2013 when he opened for her on the Diamonds World Tour.

Rocky confirmed they were dating in May 2021 in a GQ interview, where he called the Barbados born singer 'the love of his life.'

'She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones.... I think when you know, you know. She's the One,' he clarified.

Since she first announced that she and beau A$AP Rocky were expecting their first child together, the Rihanna Navy has been living for the star's sartorial choices.

The nine-time Grammy winner has yet to confirm the sex of her baby, however, the Fenty Beauty founder previously purchased a tiny orange ruffle dress at Target, which led many of her fans to speculate she's expecting a girl.

The billionaire recently opened up about her pregnancy and motherhood while launching her Fenty Beauty line at ULTA Beauty.

She told Elle she's in the 'where you wake up and you're like, oh, do I have to get dressed?' stage, adding: 'There's a pregnancy glow. There's also those days, girl.'

The singer added, 'Especially in the third trimester, makeup for sure helps you feel like a real person. I just focused a lot on moisturising and on contouring.'

She reflected: 'The face gets a little round and chubby. The nose starts to spread. Everything is a challenge, from getting dressed and how you're going to do your makeup. But I like challenges. I like things that force me to be creative and create in new ways. And with beauty, there's so much that you can do.'

It also came after Rihanna was announced as one of the latest additions to Forbes' annual billionaires list.

The singer bolstered her net worth to $1.7 billion, due to her Fenty Beauty cosmetics line and her Savage Fenty lingerie line.

She became the first billionaire ever to hail from the small island country of Barbados, and joined another entertainer, director Peter Jackson, as a newcomer, whose net worth ballooned to $1.5 billion after selling his stake in the Weta special effects house to Unity Software for $975 million.

Rihanna hasn't released an album since 2016's Anti, but she has appeared in films such as Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Ocean's 8 and Guava Island.

ASAP Rocky's last album was 2018's Testing, though he appeared on two track's on Nigo's album I Know Nigo! released in late March.
