‘SUPER IMPRESSED’: RAMSDALE EXCELS, BUT SOME ARSENAL FANS LOVE WHAT ‘UNDERRATED’ PLAYER DID TODAY

Aaron Ramsdale delivered a sublime showing between the sticks as Arsenal beat Leicester City on Saturday, but some fans loved what Alexandre Lacazette produced in their 2-0 win.

Goals from Gabriel Magalhaes and Emile Smith Rowe handed the Gunners’ an early lead at the King Power Stadium. Mikel Arteta’s side broke the deadlock on five-minutes with their Brazilian centre-back flicking Bukayo Saka’s corner across Kasper Schmeichel.

Arsenal maintained their early pressure to pen Leicester into their defensive third and soon struck home again. Smith Rowe popping up in the box to meet the rebound of Lacazette’s blocked attempt to score in the 13th-minute.

Leicester began to respond later in the first-half, but continually failed to find a way past Arsenal’s summer signing, Ramsdale The £24m arrival from Sheffield United excelling to make a fingertip save and deny Kelechi Iheanacho.

Yet Ramsdale dug even deeper into the top draw to deny Leicester ace James Maddison, who Arsenal courted this summer. Scrambling across his line to pull off an audacious save to his left-hand side after the England midfielder whipped his free-kick around the wall.

But some Arsenal fans also lauded what Lacazette produced against Leicester, with the Frenchman – not just Ramsdale – warranting praise. That’s because they loved what the £182k-a-week striker produced as a shadow striker in-behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Lacazette played a key role in Saka enjoying a chance to score against Leicester 50-seconds into Arsenal’s visit. The forward – who is out of contract at the end of the season and likely to leave as a free agent – continually applied pressure to the Foxes backline.
