Steven Gerrard's first words as Aston Villa boss after Liverpool legend leaves Rangers

Steven Gerrard has outlined his ambition to succeed after being named Aston Villa’s new manager.

The Liverpool legend has left Glasgow Rangers to replace Dean Smith at the helm at Villa Park.

During his three seasons at Ibrox, Gerrard helped Rangers win their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade.

But the 41-year-old will now take on the challenge of managing in the Premier League.

And one of his first games as Villa boss will see him return to Anfield when his new side take on Liverpool on Saturday, December 11.

“Aston Villa is a club with a rich history and tradition in English football and I am immensely proud to become its new head coach,” Gerrard told Aston Villa’s club website , in his first words since taking the job
