DDG Reveals How Much He’s Made From Vlogging

The evolution of DDG from a Pontiac native to a top-ranked global streamer and recording artist was recently explored on BET Talks on the BETNetworks YouTube channel. During a candid conversation with host Miabelle, the multi-hyphenate artist shared that his journey involved a major "leap of faith" when he left college—where he studied broadcasting and acting—after earning his first $200 on YouTube. This decision proved immensely profitable, as he soon began seeing six-figure monthly checks from vlogging his lifestyle in Los Angeles. DDG noted that it is "obvious public knowledge" that content creators out-earn rappers, a financial reality that allowed him to pursue music on his own terms without the pressure of needing industry co-signs. His independence is a point of great pride, as he prefers to build his own foundation rather than being "cliqued up" with other major artists.

The creative process for his latest project, Blame the Chat, further bridged the gap between his streaming and music careers. DDG revealed that he live-streamed the entire making of the album, even allowing his audience to pick the beats and the track list. When recording, he avoids writing lyrics on his phone and instead "punches in" to freestyle verses, a method that captures high-energy moments for tracks like "GTA" with Skilla Baby. This unfiltered approach extends to his collaborations, often calling artists like DaBaby live on stream to invite them to the studio. Despite his commercial success and platinum singles, he considers himself one of the "most underrated artists" currently in the game, though he remains unbothered by this label because of his significant wealth.

Recent personal shifts have also marked a new chapter for the artist, including the emotional experience of cutting his dreadlocks in front of nearly 97,000 live viewers. He described this as shedding "dead weight" and energy, though he admitted it was a moment that made him feel "a little emotional". Furthermore, DDG is currently practicing a six-month period of celibacy to protect his energy and focus entirely on his professional goals. A major part of this focus is his son, Halo, whom he hopes to guide toward becoming a millionaire through the child's own business ventures before the age of five. Looking toward the future, DDG intends to live-stream his entire upcoming tour, including life on the tour bus and performances on stage, to create a global "live experience" that ensures his fans always feel connected to his journey.
