Bogota Colombia

Bogota is the capital city of Colombia. Many people who travel to Colombia often skip Bogota or use it as a quick travel base to other parts of the country. That's a big mistake in my opinion! Bogota has undergone a cultural transformation in the last couple of decades, it used to be a very violent place in the 80s and 90s during Colombia's war on drugs and internal political conflicts, but today it's a vibrant city with amazing food, history, art and friendly inhabitants. It's also beautiful as the majestic Andes mountains border the city along its eastern boundary, so wherever you are in the city you can see the mountains in the distance! I encourage everyone who travels to Colombia to spend a few days exploring the capital city of Bogota! There is a lot of rich history here from the indigenous Muisca people to the Spanish colonial heritage, so many historical monuments, art museums, food markets and hikes to the top of Monserrate mountain.
