Kathleen Malay directs the series premiere of SUPPERCLUB, NOWNESS ASIA’s new original series celebrating regional cuisines through the memories and stories of a group of food lovers, shared in authentic conversations over a carefully crafted meal. SUPPERCLUB challenges prevailing hierarchies of food and cultural knowledge mediators by focusing on the stories of food, told through the perspectives of local food lovers who have intimate, everyday knowledge of what they’re eating and how to eat it. Together, they weave stories about the culinary experience that are sentimental and relatable, yet also unique. In this episode, Malay travels to Desa Les in North Bali where a beloved chef and Hindu priest is experimenting with the elements at the heart of a traditional Balinese kitchen. At dinner time in his kitchen, a familiar group of artists and writers gathers to reminisce about intertwined memories of food.
