Demna, Balenciaga's one-named Creative Director of the Year 2021, has presented his first surprise of the year: a collaboration with Yeezy Gap that will make hype beasts hyperventilate.
The initial drop of Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga items will be released globally in June, with a second drop coming later in the year.
So far, Kanye West has a solid track record with Gap.
The first Yeezy Gap product, a $200 circular puffer jacket, debuted on June 8, 2021, and sold quickly, fetching a high price on resale sites. The second, a $90 sweater released on Sept. 29, 2021, was the retailer's best-selling item in a single day, in the retailer's 52-year history, with 70% of buyers new to the brand.
"This first-of-its-kind launch sees Ye's unparalleled vision bring together the most influential designer of his generation, Demna, with iconic American brand, Gap," Yeezy Gap said in a statement on Friday. (Kanye West has been known as Ye since October.)
He declared his presidential campaign in July 2020, advocating for environmental and artistic support, as well as police reform, among other things. However, in the 12 states where his name was on the ballot, he received less than 60,000 votes. He has hinted that he would run for president again in 2024.
Last year he continued to be in the headlines, He made claims about getting back together with Kim Kardashian West after she filed for divorce, even as she moved on with "Saturday Night Live" star Pete Davidson.
Last week, West has moved on and begun seeing Julia Fox, the actress from "Uncut Gems." They were seen together in New York City, allegedly being followed by a photographer hired by West.
Interview Magazine released a series of arty images and a first-person story by Fox on Thursday night, revealing her date night with the rapper, which included him packing her hotel room with designer apparel in Cinderella-style. (West was also a key figure in the development of Kardashian's style.) They went to see "Slave Play" and ate at Carbone while out on the town.
