Producers revealed today that Kimberly Akimbo, the highly acclaimed popular Off Broadway musical, will transfer to Broadway in the autumn.
Victoria Clark as Kimberly, Justin Cooley (in his Broadway debut), Steven Boyer, Alli Mauzey, Bonnie Milligan, Olivia Elease Hardy, Fernell Hogan, Michael Iskander, and Nina White will join the cast from last fall's Off Broadway world premiere performance at the Atlantic Theater.
Kimberly Akimbo is based on David Lindsay-play Abaire's of the same name and has text and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire (the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole) and music by Tony Award-winner Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home, Caroline, or Change). Jessica Stone is the director, and Danny Mefford is the choreographer. David Stone is the producer, Atlantic Theatre Company, James L. Nederlander, LaChanze, John Gore, Patrick Catullo and Aaron Glick.
Kim is a bright and humorous Jersey kid who happens to appear like a 72-year-old granny, according to the official description. Her aging condition, though, may be the least of her concerns. Kim is determined to find happiness in a world where not even time is on her side, as she navigates family secrets, borderline personalities, and possibly criminal charges.
Clark, whose past Broadway credits include The Light in the Piazza, Gigi, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, and Sister Act, among others, starring in the musical, which premiered Off Broadway to excellent reviews from The New York Times, The Washington Post, and others. Pose, The Blacklist, Homeland, and more shows have included her. Boyer presently has a recurring role on HBO's Max's Love Life and previously acted in the NBC comedy Trial and Error and was Tony-nominated for Broadway’s Hand to God.
