Fans of the series were treated to a massive quadruple appearance as the final reel of Peacemaker played out, with four members of the Justice League appearing shortly after the show's climactic battle. During the sequence, Jason Momoa and Erza Miller emerged as their respective DC characters Aquaman and The Flash. While some speculated that this appearance simply contained speaking portions for the two Justice League members who have their own films coming out this year, John Cena has now weighed in on the participation of some of the DCEU's biggest heroes in the series.
Cena first appeared as Christopher Smith in James Gunn's version of The Suicide Squad, and the series followed up with the character after the events of the film, changing who everyone thought he was in the process. With the series nearing to an end and a large audience for HBO Max, those who tuned in were rewarded to a barnstorming finale that delivered pretty much all it promised and more. Speaking to Fandom, Cena emphasized how the inclusion of Justice League characters was critical, both from Smith's perspective and from the perspective of the program itself, in order to place it solidly in the DCEU. Cena stated:
"I'll be eternally thankful to [Momoa and Miller] because they did us a great favor by doing that." And they were able to place themselves in the spotlight and get everyone talking, but they did so in a way that didn't make the joke on them. They did it for the benefit of our show. Whether that was their objective or not, it really, really, really, really helped us to put a mark on the program, especially after eight episodes of people being enthused about it.
