Netflix has dropped off the first official trailer for Murder Mystery 2, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Directed by Jeremy Garelick, the film centers on Nick (Sandler) and Audrey Spitz (Aniston), who have become detectives in the four years following the original Murder Mystery movie, helmed by Kyle Newacheck in 2019. In Garelick’s follow-up, Nick and Audrey’s friend Maharaja (Adeel Akhtar) is kidnapped at his lavish island wedding, sending the duo on an international investigation to locate him.
Aside from Sandler, Aniston and Akhtar, the movie’s cast includes Mark Strong, Mélanie Laurent, Jodie Turner-Smith, Kuhoo Verma, John Kani and Dany Boon. Sandler and Aniston produced the movie under their respective imprints, Happy Madison Productions and Echo Films, alongside Tripp Vinson, James Stern and James Vanderbilt, who wrote the screenplay. In the original 2019 movie, Sandler and Aniston’s characters are framed for the murder of a wealthy elderly man while vacationing on a yacht.
During its first week on Netflix, more than 30 million users watched at least two minutes of the film, driving a four-week estimate of $73 million USD. Garelick made his directorial debut with The Wedding Ringer, a comedy starring Kevin Hart and Josh Gad. He later enlisted American High, a production company he co-founded alongside Mickey Liddell’s LD Entertainment, to produce several teen comedy films, including The Binge and Big Time Adolescence. Murder Mystery 2 will premiere on March 31. Watch the official trailer above.
