The problem with these foods is that they contain a lot of starch, which turns into glucose (sugar) in the body. The liver has to break down the glucose before it can be used as energy by the body's cells. If there is too much glucose in the blood, it can damage liver cells and cause inflammation of the liver.

This is why people with fatty liver disease should stick to a low-starch diet. This means avoiding bread and pasta, rice and potatoes. It also means eating more fresh fruit and vegetables instead of processed foods such as cakes, biscuits or chocolate bars.
