The Democratic Republic of Congo is rich in mineral resources such as cobalt, coltan and gold. Those minerals are essential for making smartphones and electronic vehicles. And local and global players are desperate to get their hands on them. In theory, those resources could make the DRC one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
