Vincent Enyeama ranked Africa’s greatest goalkeeper

Vincent Enyeama of the Super Eagles, has been named the greatest African goalkeeper in history. The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) chose Enyeama over other illustrious African goalkeepers like Essam El-Hadary, Thomas N'Kono, and Joseph-Antoine Bell. The decision, according to the body, was made as a result of the former Super Eagles goalie's exceptional performances for club and country over the course of a career spanning more than a decade. Enyeama played for a number of clubs, beginning with Enyimba International in Nigeria. He later traveled to Europe and wore the jerseys of teams like Bnei Yehuda, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Lille.

As a goalkeeper, Enyeama enjoyed a distinguished career and won numerous individual honors, including three times being named the best goalkeeper in the Israeli Premier League and once being named the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1 for the 2013–2014 campaign. With 21 shutouts in the 2013–2014 season, the Port-Harcourt native holds the French top flight record for the most clean sheets in a season. Enyeama is often regarded as the greatest goalkeeper in Nigeria football history with his consistent impresssive performance in goal for the Super Eagles for many years. The IFFHS All-Time Ranking, covering the period from 1987 to 2022, includes the best goalkeepers from other regions, such as Gianluigi Buffon (Italy) for UEFA, Jose Luis Chilavert (Paraguay) for CONMEBOL, Mohamed Abdullaziz Al-Deayea (Saudi Arabia) for AFC, Keylor Navas (Costa Rica) for CONCACAF, and Mark Bosnich (Australia) for Oceania.
