The Grammy Awards in 2022 have been postponed mere weeks before the previously scheduled presentation on Jan. 31.
The Recording Academy's decision to postpone the award indefinitely is due to COVID-19 concerns, as reported by Variety. The Grammy Awards were set to take place on Jan. 13 in front of a sold-out crowd at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, formerly known as the Staples Center.
Musicians and record label executives are allegedly concerned about the late January date, and it's unclear when the Grammys will take place due to planned basketball and hockey games at the same arena. The Grammys typically reserve a venue for 10 days or more, and the Crypto.com Arena's current schedule is mostly booked through June.
According to Variety's sources, the Grammys in 2022 may be moved to the Hollywood Bowl due to logistical difficulties.
"The Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th annual Grammy Awards event after careful thought and study with municipal and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community, and our numerous partners," says an official statement from the Recording Academy and CBS. "Our top goal is the health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of workers who work tirelessly to put on our performance." Because of the uncertainties surrounding the Omicron version, hosting the concert on January 31st is simply too risky. We are looking forward to enjoying Music's Biggest Night on a future date to be announced soon."
Trevor Noah will continue to host the award presentation if it goes ahead, but the lineup of performers has yet to be revealed. In November of 2021, the entire list of nominees was released.
