Former boxing star Mike Tyson is widely known as one of the best boxers of all time, with a kind of invincibility in the boxing ring that led to much success in his career. However, the former boxer gave an extremely heartbreaking admission on his podcast Thursday that suggests that he feels like his health may be failing him.
Tyson had therapist Sean McFarland on his “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson” podcast, where he admitted that he feels he is “inching closer to death.”
“We’re all gonna die one day of course,” Tyson said. “Then, when I look in the mirror, I see those little spots on my face, I say, ‘Wow. That means my expiration date is coming close, really soon.’”
He further expanded on his boxing career, adding that while he has received a ton of money throughout his career, he does not see that as security unlike many others do.
“The false sense of security,” said Tyson. “You believe nothing can happen. You don’t believe the banks could collapse. You believe that you’re invincible when you have a lot of money, which isn’t true. That’s why I always say money is a false sense of security.
“What is security? I don’t know. When you put money in your bank and you get a check every week and you can live for the rest of your life, is that security? That means you won’t catch a disease, you can’t get hit by a car? You can’t jump off a bridge. I don’t know. Is that security? Can money secure you from that?”
Tyson is 56 years old and it appears that, with age, he is tuning in with his mortality. But hopefully, for his and everyone else’s sake, he lives a long and healthy life for plenty of years to come.
