Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s Ups and Downs Through the Years

In their years-long romance, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have had their highs and lows.

Kardashian and West first met in the early 2000s, while he was recording a song with her friend Brandy, a singer who is also the older sister of Kardashian's ex-boyfriend Ray J. After her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries ended, the two reconnected years later. Kardashian was in Paris at the time to attend West's fashion show.

"Kanye and I were conversing right before I married Kris Humphries, and I just went in a different route." "I think I had to go through it to figure out what I wanted," she said on the 10th anniversary special of Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2017. "After my separation, I was devastated."

"He jokes that he put on this whole fashion show simply to get a date with me," the businesswoman continued. So I went there and stayed with him, and that's how we became together. I swear, I fell madly in love with him the instant I stepped off the plane, and I thought to myself, 'Oh, my God.' 'How come I didn't do this sooner?' Like, this is how real life is - love, laughter, and genuine support."

The couple started dating in the spring of 2012, and Us Weekly reported in December that Kardashian was expecting their first child, North, at the time. The "Gold Digger" rapper proposed to Kardashian four months after the birth of North. In May of 2014, the pair married in Italy.

The couple's marriage grew stronger as time went on to encounter issues when trying to grow their family. Though Kardashian gave birth to son Saint in 2015, she would welcome daughter Chicago in 2018 and son Psalm in 2019 via surrogate.

Over the years, the couple faced and overcame a number of challenges, including Kardashian being held at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room in 2016. When West learned of the terrifying situation, he suddenly interrupted his New York concert and raced to his wife's side.

In July 2020, the Grammy winner launched his candidacy for President of the United States. He disclosed a highly personal tidbit about how he and Kardashian considered aborting their daughter North during a campaign rally in South Carolina. He then went on a Twitter rant, claiming that Kardashian tried to get a "doctor to lock me up" as a result of his behavior at the South Carolina event.

Kardashian filed for divorce from West in February 2021, following months of separation rumors.
