Goaltending Stands TallThe third period was a defensive battle, with both teams combining for just 11 shots. The spotlight shone brightly on goaltenders Daniil Tarasov and Scott Wedgewood. Tarasov was spectacular for Florida, making 27 saves in total, including two critical, point-blank stops on Nathan MacKinnon in the final minutes to preserve the win. Wedgewood stopped 23 shots for Colorado, dropping his record to 18-2-4 on the season."That was a big, big game for us," said Florida coach Paul Maurice, acknowledging the importance of the win against the league's most dynamic team. The Panthers, despite a slew of key injuries this season (including Matthew Tkachuk, who may return on the upcoming road trip), proved they can compete with the best.The Avalanche, having gotten at least one point in 30 of their last 31 games, now look to rebound as they continue their road trip.
