Carmen Avilés: Seville Unplugged.

SEVILLE – In the sun-drenched courtyards of Seville, contemporary dancer Carmen Avilés is redefining flamenco, taking the art form from polished tourist stages back to the streets. Collaborating with director Andrew Margetson in the 2026 short film "Carmen," she showcases a raw, fast-paced style that strips away traditional costumes in favor of athletic gear. Set against the rugged backdrop of the Los Pajaritos neighborhood, the performance reclaims flamenco's roots as a gritty, expressive art born of the people. Accompanied by guitarist Joselito Acedo, Avilés blends traditional bulería rhythms with a modern, urban aesthetic, proving that the soul of Andalusian dance thrives in the community, not just on stage.
