Avril Lavigne's confessional 2019 album, Head Above Water, was published three years ago, but the pop-punk princess released her seventh studio album Love Sux on Friday (Feb. 25).
Lavigne's pal Machine Gun Kelly appears on the song "Bois Lie," as does Blink-182 bassist-singer Mark Hoppus on "All I Wanted," and producer-songwriter Blackbear on the previously released single "Love It When You Hate Me."
"When I started working on this album, I just said, 'I want to produce a pop-punk record, a rock-and-roll record.' I'm not interested in playing the piano. I'm not a big fan of ballads. "I just want to rock out," Lavigne stated recently. "I believe especially after my last album, which was so mellow, dramatic, deep, and contemplative — you know, it was lovely, and it represented where I was in my life at the time, and that's what worked for me. But I was itching to get back out there, rock the f—k out, and think about the live gigs once more. I mean, when I was old enough to buy CDs and discover bands — like, my first year of high school, which is grade nine in Canada — this is the kind of music I fell in love with."
