Apple is about to make its first product launch of 2022, and its Mac offers are at the forefront of the discussion.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing a "slew of improvements this year," and has been turning away from Intel's CPUs in favor of its own M1 models since 2020. The M1 processors were found in the 2020 MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and MacBook Air. The M1 CPUs were used in the iMac and, later, the M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pros until 2021. In 2022, the corporation will switch to Apple Silicon and ramp up the upgrades with a slew of new Mac models based on a new M2 processor, which was introduced last year.
According to recent filings, a new Mac is on the way, most likely as the third round of Mac improvements when Apple holds its first media event of 2022 on March 8. While the event will center on the 5G iPhone SE and iPad Air, Gurman reveals that at least one new Mac will be released that day. Gurman has also indicated which Macs may be released next month. He has a new Mac mini with an M1 Pro processor and a larger iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1Max chip options available. Gurman anticipates a 13-inch MacBook Pro, a Mac mini and a 24-inch iMac with an M2 chip, as well as a completely redesigned MacBook Air, featuring M2 processors.
The M2's CPU is predicted to be substantially faster than the M1, although it will still use the same eight-core design. Graphics, on the other hand, are slated to receive a far larger bump. The M2 Pro and Max are expected to be released in 2023. What Apple will announce in March remains to be seen.
