Al-Hilal Expected to Close $1.3 Billion USD Deal for Lionel Messi

In the past couple of months, football star Lionel Messi has been rumored to leave Paris Saint-Germain. Over the weekend, the Argentinian played his final game in Paris with many speculating where he will go next. Earlier last month, Messi was rumored to be a front-runner in signing with the Saudi Arabian club, Al-Hilal. Following in the footsteps of fellow footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, fans are unsurprised by the move.

Other reports indicated that Messi is still holding out to return to FC Barcelona. In a recent article from Forbes, the 35-year-old player is slated to be released from his PSG contract by June 30. A statement from the club confirmed his departure after this season, “After two seasons in the French capital, Leo Messi’s adventure with Paris Saint-Germain will come to an end at the conclusion of the 2022–23 campaign.” In regards to his next step, French publication FootMercato has reported that Messi has accepted a $1.3 billion USD deal with Al-Hilal and the club plans to make the announcement on June 6 for two seasons. Messi is allegedly being offered upwards of $375 to $642 million USD a year in different reports.

If accurate and accepted, he would dethrone Ronaldo as the World’s Highest-Paid athlete as reported by Forbes. It remains to be seen where Messi will go following his contract with PSG.
