A 16-year-old from India has beaten world chess champion Magnus Carlsen

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, who is only 16 years old, has been the youngest chess player to defeat Magnus Carlsen during his long reign as world champion. The two competed in an online event with 16 great players.

Praggnanandhaa is an Indian grandmaster who is usually known to as Pragg. The chess prodigy remarked after the game that he was pleased to improve on his performance from the first day of the competition — and to escape a tie in his game against Carlsen, which lasted 39 moves.

"I'm just incredibly thrilled," he remarked from Chennai, India, in an interview.

According to World Chess, Pragg is the youngest person to defeat Carlsen since he became world champion in 2013 — a streak that dates back to 2013.

Carlsen's performance was another another letdown in a tournament that has seen him commit unusual errors. After testing positive for the coronavirus prior to the event, the Norwegian stated he is suffering the symptoms of COVID-19.

"It's been a nightmare. I've had a few of good games, but the rest have been terrible. I'm going to have to do a lot better than that "According to the International Chess Federation website, Carlsen stated.

""It's gotten a little better today," Carlsen said Monday, "but the first couple of days I felt OK, but I didn't have the energy, which made it difficult to focus because every time I tried to think, I blundered." Today was a little better, but it was still pretty horrible."

Carlsen had won three straight matches before colliding with Pragg, indicating that he was returning his form after a shaky start. Pragg, on the other hand, was coming off three losses.

Because of the time difference, the teenager must stay up late at night to compete against the world's finest chess players in the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022 online event. After his victory, Pragg was asked if he planned to recover or celebrate with a good dinner.

"It's just going to bed because I don't think I'll have dinner at 2:30 a.m.," he explained.
