Angela Bassett's character Sergeant Athena Grant will appear on the Fox first-responder drama "9-1-1" and has a brief crossover appearance on "9-1-1: Lone Star" when "9-1-1" Season 5 returns from hiatus Monday in back-to-back time slots with its spinoff "9-1-1: Lone Star."
"There's a thing called SWAT-ing," showrunner Tim Minear teases Variety, "where someone calls 9-1-1 and they send the police or generally a SWAT squad to a house." "It's a cruel joke that gamers play on each other. People have died as a result of these raids in California. So, considering most crossovers are cross-state, I've always thought that would be a nice way to accomplish it. So there's a SWAT-ing incident on 'Lone Star,' and someone is killed, and Carlos (Rafael Silva) and Grace (Sierra McClain) are personally offended since they were used as weapons. They're trying to figure out who made the SWAT call, and they've narrowed it down to Los Angeles.
On Monday's episode of "9-1-1," Athena, Bobby, and the 118 "speed" to the rescue of a family whose pick-up truck has been equipped with a pipe bomb that will detonate if it slows down below 55 miles per hour, according to Fox.
