6 Proven Ways You Can Improve Your Skin Texture

There are several things you can do in order to improve your skin texture.

  • Exfoliate regularly with a chemical exfoliant. With regularly I mean 2 to 3 times a week; not only your texture will improve, you’ll feel refreshed! Exfoliating is extremely satisfying, if you don’t do it already you’ll soon find yourself looking forward to it. If you use an AHA exfoliant remember to apply it at night as AHAs cause sun sensitivity. I personally use a 10% glycolic acid serum.

  • Consider double cleansing every day instead of “classic” face cleansing, especially if you wear makeup or sunscreen regularly. You’ll need an oil or balm cleanser and a regular water based cleanser to do that. Most skin impurities can be avoided with a great, consistent cleansing routine. We all have that night where we pass out on the bed before we get the chance to take off our foundation, mascara etc, but if this is more of a three times a week thing for you, your skin is very likely suffering because of it.

  • Reduce dairy. Dairy tends to be inflammatory and cause breakouts. Additionally it exposes you to antibiotics that kill the good bacteria in your intestine. This is bad for the skin; several skin conditions have been linked to an altered gut microbiome. Sometimes we buy certain foods because we tell ourselves it’s for a guest or that we’re only going to have the smallest piece and we’ll leave the rest for our partner, knowing full well we’re not going to be able to control ourselves and that we’re going to eat it ALL once we get home. It’s best to avoid this type of situation so just don’t keep in the house.

  • If you’re dealing with acne book an appointment with a gynecologists'. You might be thinking, what? Here’s how: often acne is caused by an hormonal imbalance and a good gynecologists' can verify whether that’s the case for you and help you find the best treatment for your case. I know because it was the same for me and I ended up taking a medication that helped me immensely.

  • If you get a lot of pimples or blackheads introduce salicylic acid into your skincare routine. Salicylic acid is an oily skin type’s best friend: it breaks down the material that clogs the pores. Use it in a serum or cream or toner…whatever product you pick, it must be a leave on product. There is no need to apply it on your whole face, you can spot treat and apply it only where you have blackheads. Going to an aesthetician for a mechanical extraction of blackheads once every one and a half month is also a great way to keep your skin in tip-top shape.

  • Use skincare products that are fit for your skin type, in an adequate amount. Using skincare products that are too rich for your skin type, or using an inordinate amount of moisturizer is a sure fire way to get breakouts and impurities. This unfortunately happens a lot to rookie skincare enthusiasts who don’t know any better; even if your skin type is very dry using a big chunk of cream isn’t gonna help. It’s just going to make your skin look greasy…Besides, different areas of the face produce sebum in different ways, so you might want to apply products differently depending on that, too.
