$11.3 Million Leonora Carrington Sculpture

“There’s nothing chicer right now than these badass, witchy women,” said Julian Dawes, Sotheby’s Head of Impressionist and Modern Art. Five determined bidders battled it out for Leonora Carrington’s ‘La Grande Dame’, which fetched an impressive $11.3 million in the Modern Evening Auction at Sotheby's New York. ‘La Grande Dame’ brings Carrington’s fantastical vision to life in three dimensions. Argentinian businessman and owner of the MALBA museum, Eduardo Costantini, added the Surrealist sculpture to his growing Carrington collection, after winning the record-breaking ‘Les Distractions de Dagobert’ last May.
