10 Things You Can Do Right Now To Have A Better Life

Below are 10 things you can do right now to have a better life

  1. Invest in your support system. The lowest moments of my life have occurred during periods of low social support—typically because I failed to invest in my relationships. In contrast, after having invested in my friends and family over the past few years, I am now feeling better than I have in awhile.
  2. Get your hands dirty. Engage in projects you find interesting, like building a Twitter bot, learning how to paint, or producing digital art. Get to work. Stop thinking about working.
  3. Read. Find genres you are interested in and start reading. If you’re like me and struggle to sit and read, consider an Audible subscription. I have recently been listening to Rework, a book on business building, while cooking and cleaning, for instance.
  4. Turn off phone notifications. Phone notifications are productivity and moment killers. If you're working on a project or engaging with friends, notifications take you out of the moment. Distractions are preventing you from being present, and I believe notifications are our biggest distractions.
  5. Invest. I am a proponent of forgoing consumption today to have more in the future. Investing teaches the lessons of delayed gratification and patience. By allowing your investments to compound over time, you can be financially stable or purchase that car or house you’ve always wanted. Also, you don’t need large sums to begin. You can start with any spare cash you have.
  6. Exercise. Exercising has well-known short-term and long-term health benefits. Personally, it makes me feel accomplished and decreases my stress and anxiety. When I forgo exercising, I feel sluggish and unfulfilled.
  7. Change career paths. If you are no longer deriving pleasure or purpose from your work or study, switch to an area that is of more interest. Life is too short to do work you don’t enjoy.
  8. Relax. Find time for you each day. I like to listen to podcasts and watch Netflix with my partner to unwind. These simple acts boost my happiness and re-energize me, so I can sustainability give my all in my work and relationships.
  9. Adopt a pet. Pets make us more active and decrease our stress. If able, consider adopting one. My partner and I adopted a kitty two weeks ago and love how much more dynamic and enjoyable our household is.
  10. Hold yourself to a higher standard. Are you living a life you’re proud of? Are you proud of the effort you exert? Are you proud of your relationships? Are you proud of your work? Holding yourself to a higher standard means not settling for anything but your best in every aspect of your life.
