Yemi Alade, a Nigerian singer-songwriter, musician, and actor, has been named Africa's spokesperson for Covid 19.
In a campaign dubbed It's Up to Us, the multi-award-winning African star is entrusted with urging Africans to get vaccinated against Covid-19.The Africa Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and Mastercard are leading the campaign.
According to the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention, just 12.33 percent of the continent's population is fully vaccinated, with only 0.91 percent receiving their booster dose.
In a tweet, Alade expressed her excitement to work with the Africa CDC, Mastercard, and thousands of Africans to "one shot at a time" stem the spread of coronavirus.
Yemi was appointed as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador in 2020, or the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
