WhatsApp rolls out support for HD video

Last week, WhatsApp announced that it is adding support for HD photos, allowing users of the messaging app to retain the high-resolution phone they want to share with friends and family. At the time, the company announced that HD video support would be coming soon. Today, the company revealed to TechCrunch that HD video support is now rolling out to iOS and Android users. Similar to the HD photo feature, the HD video feature gives customers the option to share high-definition videos on WhatsApp. Previously, high-definition videos would have been streamed to 480p, based on the app's previous resolution limit. Now users can choose to send their videos in HD, but only up to 720p.

The Major WhatsApp Updates And Features Due In 2023

The process here is the same for sharing HD photos. After selecting the video(s) you want to share, you have to tap the new HD button at the top of the screen. A dialog box will appear where you can confirm whether you want to share in standard quality or HD quality and the size of the affected file will be displayed. You then click send to share the video as usual. Images and videos shared on WhatsApp are protected by the company's end-to-end encryption. The recipient will see a small HD badge on the video shared in the app which will let them know that you are sharing in HD. This lets them decide if they have the storage space or bandwidth to view the video you shared in HD quality at that time. The feature is rolling out, so if you don't have it yet, you'll get it soon.
