Viola Davis Says She Fears What Michelle Obama Will Think Of Her Portrayal In ‘The First Lady’

Viola Davis plays Michelle Obama in Showtime's The First Lady, and she reveals she is concerned about what the former First Lady will think of her performance. The anthology drama will air on April 17.
"Let me tell you something: the prospect of Michelle Obama watching the program not only crosses my mind, but it keeps me awake at night," Davis remarked during the show's CTAM discussion on Wednesday.

"You don't want to offend people with your portrayal... As much as we think we know Michelle Obama—and I did everything I could to research her—there are private moments when you have to make some creative decisions. I'm not sure how she sleeps with Barack or disciplined her children. There are some minor details that I can let my imagination go wild with and hope that I don't offend her. That's what an artist has to deal with."
