Valentino: The Rome Sessions.

ROME – In a hauntingly beautiful departure from the traditional fashion week circuit, Creative Director Alessandro Michele has returned to the house’s Roman roots to unveil the Valentino Fall/Winter 2026/2027 collection. Titled #ValentinoInterferenze, the show was staged within the historic, Baroque halls of Palazzo Barberini on March 12, 2026. Eschewing simple glamour for a cinematic exploration of "memories, restlessness, and resilience," the presentation functioned as both a high-fashion runway and a profound narrative performance, set against a backdrop of architectural grandeur and a deeply evocative soundtrack.

The show opened with a heavy sense of nostalgia, as lyrics reflecting on rainstorms and summer days drifted through the palace’s ornate corridors. This initial phase established a mood of introspective longing, which was mirrored in the garments: flowing, elongated silhouettes and delicate lace-trimmed pieces that seemed to float between the past and the present. However, this softness was quickly met by a theme of fierce resilience. The soundtrack shifted to emphasize the metaphor of the "phoenix from the flame," a symbolic nod to the house’s ability to reinvent itself following the recent passing of its founder, Valentino Garavani, earlier this year.

As the show reached its midpoint, the atmosphere transitioned from poetic reflection to high-intensity energy. The repetition of the word "Heat" pulsed through the audio, coinciding with the introduction of sharper, more assertive silhouettes—bold 1980s-inspired shoulders, structured leather jackets, and cinched cummerbunds. This "interference" of styles created a palpable tension on the runway, blending the discipline of classical tailoring with a "rockstar rebelliousness." The collection’s palette reflected this conflict, punctuating muted neutrals with sudden bursts of teal, plum, and the selective, symbolic return of the iconic "Valentino Red."

The final act of the show reached a dramatic climax, weaving an emotional plea to "Stay with me" into a broader narrative about family, transformation, and the endurance of legacy. The climax saw a progression of theatrical evening gowns, including sheer tulle confections and a singular, minimalist column dress in red that closed the show. This concluding narrative underscored Michele’s vision of fashion not just as ornament, but as a living site where memory and future collide. By broadcasting the event live to giant LED screens in Milan and Naples, Valentino transformed a private Roman gala into a public "meta-event," marking a definitive and resilient new chapter for the Maison in 2026.
