The Toronto Film Festival said Thursday that it will return to an in-person festival for this year's edition, which will take place September 8-18. Because of the global pandemic, the event had been almost non-existent for the previous two years.
TIFF's networking and events, including as the TIFF Opening Night Party, the Industry Conference, Filmmaker Dinners, Industry Networking Events, Press & Programmers Events, and the TIFF Tribute Awards Gala, are all set to return.
TIFF also announced the addition of five new curators to its roster, including Robyn Citizen, who has been with TIFF since 2018 and has been named Director of Festival Programming & Cinematheque. She is most directly related to Diana Sanchez, who left her position as Senior Director, Film in January after three years. Jane Schoettle will return to lead programming in the Special Presentations section; imagineNative's Jason Ryle will take on the new role of selecting Indigenous-made films from around the world; journalist Kelly Boutsalis will join as Associate Programmer for Canadian feature films; and Ravi Srinivasan will return as Senior Manager, TIFF Programming.
Andréa Picard, a writer and cinema and art curator, has been designated Senior Curator of TIFF & TIFF Cinematheque.
"We're excited to share this news about TIFF 2022 and to welcome new faces to our programming team," festival CEO Cameron Bailey said. "TIFF's curation will be enriched and broadened by their knowledge, passion, and viewpoints." We can't wait to see what our new programmers will bring to the mix as we prepare our selections for TIFF Bell Lightbox all year and the 47th Toronto International Film Festival.
Bailey was named CEO in November, succeeding Joana Vicente, who left to become CEO of the Sundance Film Festival. Later same month, Universal Music Canada Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Remedios was appointed to the festival's board of directors. He took over for Jennifer Tory, who had held the position since 2016 and had served out her tenure. Six additional board members resigned, and five new members were appointed.
