Top 10 Travel Tips By Experts

According to advice from Nicholas Stone a travel expert who has visited over 50 countries and territories around the world.

My top 10 travel tips:

1.Travel light and pack as little as possible. The clothes you are wearing are part of your travel wardrobe. Be prepared to wash smaller items in the sink where you are staying or use a local launderette.

2. Familiarize yourself with the region you are visiting. Google street maps, a few words of the language and even some local history will help you better appreciate your new surroundings.

3. Ahead of a long-haul flight crossing several time zones, set your watch to the destination’s time zone before departure. It can give the impression of reducing your jet lag.

4. Where possible, consider surface travel as an alternative to the cramp and disorientating experience of airline travel. A long railway or ferry journey can be an adventure.

5. Avoid costly mobile phone roaming charges by downloading selected maps that can be viewed and used offline.

6. Save money and pack a home-assembled picnic for your journey. This can be a heartier alternative to the costly shrink-wrapped catering offered on a train or plane.

7. When visiting a city, buy a public transport pass rather than spend money on a packaged sightseeing tour. You can have a lot of fun exploring the city as the locals do - using the local public transport.

8. Consider freeloading - the shameless cost-saving measure of staying with friends when you are on your travels. I’ve done this many times. A big thanks to anyone reading this who has had me stay at their home.

9 .If you are traveling on a budget, set aside some money so you can have at least one night in a decent hotel. It’ll be a treat.

10. Travel in a loop or circumnavigate the globe. You never have to double back. You are always traveling in the same direction.
