Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is selling Chelsea football club

Following the imposition of penalties by the European Union, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich announced this week that he was selling Chelsea F.C.

Abramovich made the news on Chelsea's Instagram page this week, following the imposition of sanctions on both his home nation and him as a result of the ongoing turmoil in Ukraine.
He stated that the choice was made for the benefit of fans, sponsors, and employees.

He also absolved Chelsea of any obligations, claiming that "it was never a business, but rather a sincere passion for the game and the club."

The sale's net revenues will be donated to a fund to assist victims in Ukraine.

The Russian investor purchased the team in 2003 and has since significantly altered the power balance in world football.

Until the early 2000s, the Blues were an average English Premier League team, but with a capital injection from a Russian investor, the club became one of the most successful in the country.
According to the British press, businessmen may be hesitant to begin this transaction because Abramovich's accounts could be frozen at any point due to sanctions, complicating the entire process.

The present valuation of the football club is considered to be over £2 billion ($2.6 billion), whereas the Russian investor paid 140 million euros ($155 million) for Chelsea.

Nonetheless, applicants for the club's purchase have already been identified, according to the club's president.

He stated that he received a purchase offer, but that he cannot pay such expenses on his own, therefore he intends to seek out like-minded individuals among businessmen.

Todd Boely, an American, was one of those who agreed to back Wiss, according to The Telegraph.

Previously, Boely expressed interest in Chelsea but was unable to reach an agreement with Roman Abramovich.

The London club won the Champions League and the Europa League twice, the English championship five times, the national cup six times, the League Cup three times, and the national Super Cup twice in 19 years.

Chelsea won 21 trophies during Abramovich's tenure. And it appears that the team's fans will remember this period for a long time.
