'Nope,' Jordan Peele's New Universal Film, Gets A First Look

The first three pictures from Jordan Peele's new film Nope, starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira, Brandon Perea, and Michael Wincott, were released today in a teaser by Universal.

Nope follows the horror films Us and Get Out, the latter of which earned Peele his first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 2018. The plot of the film is being kept under wraps. Peele co-wrote and directed the upcoming horror film, which he also produced with Ian Cooper through his Monkeypaw Production business. The picture will be released on July 22 as part of Universal's exclusive five-year arrangement with the studio.

It was last year in Southern California that Nope was put into production, As NBCUniversal recently announced, it welcomed the first class of trainees from Universal Filmed Entertainment Group's California Below-the-Line Traineeship for people interested in working behind the camera. The new program, which was developed in collaboration with the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, Hollywood Cinema Production Resources, and various IATSE locals by NBCUniversal's Global Talent Development & Inclusion department, was launched as part of the media and entertainment conglomerate's overall commitment to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion across all areas of production.

Monkeypaw, Peele's production company, was founded in 2012. The studio recently released Nia DaCosta's adaption of Candyman, which became the first picture directed by a Black woman to open at No. 1 in the domestic box office, as well as pioneering a social impact campaign in collaboration with Universal.

It has recently teamed up with Universal to get the rights to an untitled horror picture by Nikyatu Jusu, who received the Grand Jury Prize in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival for her horror-drama Nanny.
