JKA Karate win 20 medals At National Champs

A team of 16 from JKA Timaru Karate have won 20 medals at the National Karate Championships in Christchurch at the weekend.

Of the 20 medals, nine were gold and were won by Harper Lindsay, Sierra Wilkinson, Ethan Box, Hayley Chang, Jessica Box, Josephine Yeo, Jason Box, and sensei Lizelle Pelser (two).

Approximately 300 karatekas participated from all over the country, and it was a great achievement to come away with such a medal haul, Pelser said, adding the chief instructor of all of JKA New Zealand, sensei Karl Naoroji, was extremely proud of their achievements.

Hayley Chang, gold, Kata Female 12/13 yrs, silver, Kumite Female 12/13 yrs.

Jessica Box, gold, Kumite Female 12/13 yrs.

Josephine Yeo, gold, and Gemma Lindsay, silver, Kata Female 35+ yrs.

Jason Box, gold, Kata 45+ yrs.

Taye Goodger, bronze, Kata Male 16/17 yrs.

Megan Pelser, silver, Kata Female 16/17 yrs; and bronze, Kumite Female 16/17 yrs.

Rizky Holdaway-Smith (silver) and Kirtideva Peruman (bronze) Kata Male 16+ yrs.
