Let's face it, you're probably in need of a vacation, so grab your Gorp gear and head to China's Changbai Mountain, KAWS' 8th HOLIDAY location.
Even those who are close to finishing a scratchable world map poster can't compare to the stamps on KAWS' passport. Despite the problems that global nomads have had traveling in recent years, the artist's HOLIDAY has continued to crop up over the world, inviting people to visit new places.
KAWS:HOLIDAY has visited Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Virginia Beach, Mount Fuji, Bristol, and Singapore since its inception in 2019.
The larger-than-life COMPANION (this time not alone) finds itself on the grounds of TianchI, ChangbaI Mountain, as depicted in a series of commemorative KAWS:HOLIDAY figurines premiering this year january 7.
Tianchi, which means "Heaven Lake," is a crater lake on the Chinese-North Korean border that sits atop Changbai Mountain. There's no better HOLIDAY place for Gorp lovers to put their Arc'teryx, Manastash, and trail sneakers to the test.
This leg of the series has been in the works for two years with the support of The North Face, implying that KAWS x The North Face is the result of that collaboration.
Between January 6 and 16, two huge COMPANIONS will be seated on Changbai Mountain, at an altitude of 2,750 meters, taking in the natural splendor that surrounds them.
As KAWS:HOLIDAY continues to push the envelope with each location, we're left wondering where the 9th, 10th, and beyond destinations will land — the Metaverse, perhaps?
