CAF fixes date for Al Ittihad, Enyimba Confederation Cup first leg

Peoples Elephant still work in progress, says Finidi
African football governing body, CAF, has told Al Ittihad of Libya to choose any of December 17, 18 and 19 to host the first leg of their Confederation Cup tie against Nigeria’s Enyimba.

The first leg of the match was originally scheduled for Tunisia, but the game was aborted as Enyimba could not gain entry into the North African country due to strict COVID-19 rules.

Thereafter, Enyimba wrote to CAF for the game to be rescheduled and their request was granted.

Yesterday’s report by africantopsports.com did not state whether the game has a new venue or it will still hold in Tunisia.

Meanwhile, Enyimba’s Head Coach, Finidi George, has described his club, which has been doing well in the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup, as work in progress.

The Peoples Elephant at the weekend defeated Al Ittihad of Libya 2-0 in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie to make the postponed first leg a bit easier to navigate.

Goals from Sadiq Aboubakar and Victor Mbaoma gave Enyimba the win in Aba and they now need to avoid defeat in the away leg to make the group phase of the competition.

Speaking after the game, Finidi said his boys were beginning to understand what he expects from them adding that their performance in the game went according to plan.

“We were a bit nervous in the early part of the game, but we gradually got into the match and dominated it throughout 90 minutes.”

The former Ajax Amsterdam star said he was particularly impressed by his attitude of his wards, saying, “we kept possession, we had lots of chances in the first half and the second half. We were a little bit unlucky to not have scored. I’m quite happy with the boys.”
