The grand finale of the 53rd Asoju Oba Cup will hold today at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, with former international, Atanda Musa, as guest of honour.
Already, Yusuf Sanni defeated Ahmed Koleosho 5-1 in the Para event final decided yesterday.
In the men’s singles final, Rilwan Akanbi will meet Muiz Adegoke, while six-time winner in the women’s class, Bose Odusanya, will be gunning for a record seventh title when she battle Kehinde Oyeniyi in today’s final.
Meanwhile, Musa, who dominated the sport for many years, will play in an exhibition match in the championship that launched him into limelight.
According to the Chairman of the Lagos State Table Tennis Association (LSSTA), Tunji Lawal, Musa’s appearance will bring glamour to today’s finals, adding that it will also inspire the athletes competing at this year’s championship.
Lawal revealed that the association plans to partner with Musa to develop table tennis in the Lagos State, adding, “We are excited that the family of Okoya-Thomas has kept faith with the sponsorship of the championships, which has also been helping us to keep our players in top shape for major events.
“We hope to build on this with the hope that we will continue to attract more sponsors to table tennis in Lagos because we are hopeful that we can produce the next superstars in the sport like Musa and the rest of them.”
