Chioma Onyekwere made history by becoming the first Nigerian to win gold in the discus throw competition at the currently taking place 2022 Commonwealth games in the UK.
The 28-year-old overtook the home-girl Jade Lally, who had held the lead from the competition's opening throw of 57.33 meters, by throwing 61.70 meters in her fourth attempt.
Nigerians are delighted by the Discus Throw champion, who was born in the United States, and many have been congratulating her on her amazing accomplishment.
Obiageri Amaechi won the bronze medal with a throw of 56.99 meters in the fifth round, giving Team Nigeria their first-ever two medalists in the Discus Throw competition.

Kola Daniel, the SA Media to Nigeria's Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, expressed his satisfaction over Chioma's accomplishment in a statement to Sports Brief.
