Manchester United Agrees To Pay £15.7m For Feyenoord Left-back Tyrell Malacia

Manchester United have agreed a €17 million (£15.7 million) deal to sign Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia after hijacking Lyon's attempt to sign the 22-year-old Dutch international.

Lyon had a verbal agreement with Malacia for €12 million plus €3 million in add-ons and were waiting for the player to travel for a medical and sign a contract when United stepped in on Monday night.

They had a proposal accepted for €15 million plus €2 million in add-ons, and Feyenoord's technical director, Frank Arnesen, was quoted as saying: "The agreement is there." Tyrell is now on his way. If he says yes, a move to Manchester United is on the cards." West Ham also made a late bid for Malacia.

Malacia has 136 appearances for Feyenoord, where he came through the academy, and five caps for the Netherlands after being given his debut last September by former United manager Louis van Gaal. Last season, United's main left-back options were Luke Shaw and Alex Telles.

Malacia is represented by the same agent as Frenkie de Jong, the Barcelona midfielder being pursued by United manager Erik ten Hag. United are hopeful of signing De Jong, another Dutch international, after reaching an agreement on a fee. The talks are going well, and the initial price could be €65m (£56.1m), with add-ons bringing the total to around €85m.

Barcelona rejected United's initial offer of €60 million plus a potential €10 million in add-ons. De Jong worked with Ten Hag at Ajax and has been the manager's main target since he first coached United's players on Monday.
