Dior goes to Mexico City

ior moves to Mexico City for the 2024 Cruise collection. Maria Grazia Chiuri chose to walk the runway at the Colegio de San Ildefonso, where Frida Kahlo met Diego Rivera. A magnificent place full of history. Backstage, the models are overexcited, singing and dancing. Many of them walk in their home countries, something that really moves Fernanda Alvarez. Enya Davis spies on the guests settling in. Naomi Watts, Léna Mahfouf, Jihoon Kim, Alicia Keys. The show begins. Celic Dorig opens. Butterflies are everywhere in the collection: on jewelry, on bags, on shirts, in the models' hair. The butterfly is an important animal in Mexico, symbolizing renewal, metamorphosis and rebirth. The Dior signature bar suit is covered in traditional embroidery by Mexican artisans from the Yolcentle workshop. The show closes with a tableau as striking as it is political: a swarm of models stands in the courtyard of the Colegio. They wear white dresses whose red embroidery evokes violence against women, especially Mexican women. Dior and Maria Grazia Chiuri gave artist Elina Chauvet carte blanche to embroider these dresses, which are still in the canvas state. After the show, Alicia Keys danced in the rain. She loved the show and wants to wear all the pieces.
