Amusan Aims For Another Win In Zurich On Thursday

Nigeria's biggest athlete at the moment, Tobilola Amusan, believes she is in an excellent position to continue her winning streak in Zurich on Thursday.

The World and Commonwealth 100m hurdles champion and record holder says she is looking forward to re-enacting the scenario that won the historic Diamond League trophy in Zurich last year when she will return to the stadium Letzigrund move.

Amusan made history as the first Nigerian athlete to win a Diamond League discipline when she took first place with an African time of 12.42 seconds in the final in Zurich.

The event led to a series of firsts for Nigerians, after which she became the first person of her country to win the world title, the first to set a world record, the first to defend the city. Commonwealth Games title, and of course, the first to set the High Hurdles Games record.

The Nigerian took part in the ISTAF meeting in Berlin on Sunday and won the race in 12.45 seconds.

The petite reigning Nigeria, African, Commonwealth and World 100m hurdles champion took to her Facebook page after the event to express her gratitude to God for winning for the third straight visit to Berlin.

She also hopes to successfully defend her Diamond League trophy in Zurich at the Diamond League final.

Amusan wrote: “Glory to God for today (Sunday’s) victory at the ISTAF Berlin meet. Clocked 12.45s, which was the identical time I ran last weekend (Aug 26) to finish second at the Lausanne Diamond League.

“Next stop is the Diamond League final later this week. Same stadium my winning spree began last year when I became the first Nigerian to win a Diamond League Trophy.

“I look forward to that moment once again. Your will be done, oh Lord.”
